That was fast...

So apparently, tomorrow the Sharks are going to announce their head coach. I'm a little surprised they didn't try and drag it out. Last off season they had a counter for like month to count down to the new logo veiling.

I don't really have an opinion on coaches nor am I knowledgeable on the subject, all I know is you need one, apparently. Here's to hoping that the new head coach doesn't... suck.

UPDATE: Supposedly it's Red Wings' Assistant Coach Todd McLellan.

Gawd, the Sharks are like that friend everyone had in middle school--the one that couldn't keep a secret to save her life. They try to make a big deal about the announcements but by the time they get around doing it everyone all ready knows. People knew that Rivet and Milan signed extensions last summer (even though the Sharks denied it both times only to release the information days later), people knew what the new logo and jersey looked like way before the unveilings. Why even bother, guys?

UPDATE: Never mind, they announced it officially on the Sharks page. It's no big secret anymore. We can all rest easy.

Soph, over at Working the Corners, they're saying it'll be DET assistant Todd McLellan. I don't know if that's true, but they make it sound like it's not just a rumor...

I was just going to tack that on the post.

I found it here from hfboards: http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080611/BLOG09/80611069/1048/sports

Hey, at least it's not Torts

That's pretty much what I was thinking! When I saw the thing on the Sharks' site about the press conference, I was like, "Oh no! Not Torts!"

I really don't know anything about McLellan, but is it a bad thing that he wasn't his last team's HEAD coach? Oh well, at least Detroit just won a Cup...

I don't know. At least he was an NHL coach, I think I'd prefer that to an AHL coach. Plus he was Assisstant Coach to the Red Wings--winners on the Cup and President's trophy--not like some random lame team. People are saying that he's good with the younger players, which should be good.

Next season will be interesting.

Yeah, and it's hard to predict how coaching situations will pan out. It certainly helps that he's coming from the Cup champs!

Well, it's good that he works well with the youngsters... the Sharks do have a bunch of them!

Hey girls, been reading you for a few weeks now, but I felt I should chip in here. Just want to let you know that McLellan should be quite the coach for the Sharks. I'm a Wings fan and McLellan has a pretty spiffy record.

Here's a rundown on him for you from an NHL.com article:
-Last 3 seasons as assistant coach for DET; focus on offense and power plays
-Spent 4 seasons as the AHL's Houston Aeros head coach; won the Calder Cup in 2003
-Also coached Cleveland (IHL) and Swift Current (WHL)
( Incase you want the full info: http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=365765 )

He has the credentials. I think it's just been a matter of timing and the right job.

Good luck... kinda ;)

Hi Amanda and welcome to Slightly Saucy! Not even going to lie, I'm honored that you've been reading the blog for a while, Jess and I love fresh meat... I mean new friends! Just joking :)

Thanks for the run-down on McLellan, this is very exciting stuff.

I look forward to checking out your blog :)

Hey Soph, not a problem, glad I could honor you! ;) I look forward to watching McLellan's progress with his new position, and from what I've read, I'm pretty sure you girls have no problem with giving your opinions straight!

Welcome Amanda! Thanks for the info on McLellan, since we know like nothing about him.

I'm glad you've been enjoying our blog! (I guess it helped that we were cheering for Detroit in the Finals!) Yay, new friends!

Haha, thanks Jess! And yes, if you were bashing on my Wings as opposed to cheering for them, I probably would've kept quiet... but I'd still be reading! I have too many blogs to keep up with, but I do make the time to read the ones written by girls as guys tend to be, well, less entertaining to put it nicely!

I managed to listen to some of today's press conference. And so far I'm enjoying Todd McLellan (that's a lot of "l"s) but I guess I'll have to wait until the actual season to pass judgement. Hopefully he won't be like Ron Wilson, in other words call out and pick on the young boys and letting the older more established boys do whatever they want... I'm still bitter about him scratching Steve and Kyle but never Patty or Cheechoo when they totally deserved it last season. But whatever. I don't hold a grudges or anything...It was very cute when he talked about his family. Although a lot of the questions the reporters were asking where kind of random. Well, good luck in San Ho, Todd. I hope this will be the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

Yeah, if he's going to be a hard-ass, he better spread it around, instead of targeting certain players over others who deserve it more (*coughPattycough*). I'm not liking the impending "McLellan" "McLaren" confusion though! My eyes are usually deceiving me (like ALWAYS with Pavelski and Milan! Eight and nine look like the same damn number!) and now my ears can join in on the fun!
