Fuck my life

It's only Tuesday and it was already shaping out to be a really shitty week without any contribution from the hockey world.

It's not that I wasn't expecting it. They were over the cap and something needed to be done, but it doesn't make it suck any less.

-Sigh- Anyone care to give me the nitty gritty details on how exactly waiving players works?

All I know is there's a 24 hour window - noon one day to noon the following - where a player can be claimed. Someone on a message board said there's some sort of pecking order, but they didn't give details. Otherwise I'm lost too, so I'm hoping someone can give you more than I can!

And I knew you'd be seeing that... came in on my news feed while I was in class. I sowwy :(

Waaahhh, not our Perfect Man! I know it's not a totally shocking development, but I would have almost preferred him to be waived/dealt prior to now... which is TWO WEEKS before the Sharks come to Philly. Waaaahhh.

This has been like the most sucktastic week... and it's only Tuesday. Woo-wee. :(

Thanks for the waiver explanation/sympathy, Amanda!

Thanks Amanda and Anne... I appreciate your sympathy in Jess and my time of mourning and suck-i-tude.

Thanks for the info, Amanda. Why has waiving guys been this summer's trend? It's about as unfortunate as crocs.

Hey Anne, is there any way you could use your connections with the Sabres to get them to pick him up? You know you want a slow but physical defenseman with a snappy wardrobe. Plus Kyle and Rivet did sit together in the lockerroom... They're like BFFs and I'm sure it would make Rivet the happiest man in Buffalo. Also, Kyle and RoyZ could totally go shopping together. They would totally borrow each other's crazy screenprint tees all the time. Just imagine it, Anne...

Waaaaah! What will we DO, Jess?!

When a player is placed on waivers, the other teams can claim him without giving up anything, and the order in which teams pick is the draft order (or, the reverse of the final standings).

So, suppose Detroit wanted to add McLaren from waivers. All the other NHL teams must pass on him before Detroit could pick him up.

At the end of the 24 hours, if nobody claims him (as happened today with McLaren), the Sharks have the option of sending him to the minors, and taking his salary off the books for salary-cap purposes. McLaren would still get paid his full salary if he were assigned to the AHL. If the Sharks recall him, he's subject to re-entry waivers, where another team can claim him for half his per-year salary (the other half to be paid by the Sharks, but this counts against the salary-cap).

All of which is to say that it's likely that McLaren will get traded, and the Sharks will now be forced to sweeten the deal with a draft pick, player, or prospect. This is similar to the Mattieu Schneider situation that Anaheim was in a few weeks back.

I LOVE HIM ALREADY. I watched the Shark Bite interview when they were ripping on each other and its half the reason I love Rosie the Riveter so much. I'LL CALL DARCY AND START A PETITION. I know he's already cleared waivers, but THERE'S STILL A CHANCE!!!

What happened? I've been out of it this week, because college decided to destroy my life.
